McWhinney Intends to Frack for Oil and Gas in the Centerra Section of Loveland

The revelation that McWhinney planned to employ fracking to produce oil and gas from Loveland’s heavily populated Centerra district has neighbors worried. McWhinney, the Centerra developer, has a huge amount of subsurface mineral rights in the Loveland region around Interstate 25 and US Highway 34.

Residents were invited to an open house during the first week of January to learn more about the developer’s plans to frack in the region.More information will be accessible during the open house, which will be conducted virtually on Wednesday, January 19 from 6 to 7 p.m.

The hearing was originally scheduled to take place in person a day earlier, but McWhinney modified the date and format owing to an increase in COVID-19 cases and to avoid clashing with the Loveland City Council meeting. The meeting’s registration information may be found at the bottom of this story. McWhinney indicated that he would be the only one speaking at the meeting, which he described as a “preliminary presentation” of drilling plans on which the firm had been working for 15 years.

He stated a tape of the meeting will be made accessible for anyone who is unable to attend. Before the meeting, he wouldn’t say anything about the plans, such as the number of wells under consideration or the specific position within Centerra.”This is truly supposed to be a discussion between me and my neighbors there are several thousand of them,” McWhinney said, “so they can hear from me before any submittals to the city or the state.”
