Marathon Petroleum Corp. stock underperforms

Marathon Petroleum Corp. shared slipped 1.53% to $53.43 Monday, on what proved to be an all-around rough trading session for the stock market, with the S&P 500 Index SPX falling 0.53% to 4,163.26 and Dow Jones Industrial Average DJIA falling 0.36% to 34,077.63.

Marathon Petroleum Corp. closed $6.50 below its 52-week high $59.93 which the company reached on March 11th. The stock underperformed when compared to some of its competitors Monday, as Exxon Mobil Corp. XOM fell 0.32% to $56.48, Chevron Corp.rose 0.29% to $103.26, and BP PLC ADR BP rose 0.52% to $25.31. Trading volume remained 2.0 million below its 50-day average volume of 5.9 M.

Occidental Petroleum Corp.shares OXY inched 0.66% higher to $24.54 Monday, on what proved to be an all-around dismal trading session for the stock market, with the S&P 500 Index SPX falling 0.53% to 4,163.26 and Dow Jones Industrial Average DJIA falling 0.36% to 34,077.63. The stock’s rise snapped a two-day losing streak. The Petroleum Corp. closed $7.98 short of its 52-week high ($32.52), which the company achieved on March 5th.

The stock outperformed some of its competitors Monday, as Exxon Mobil Corp. XOM fell 0.32% to $56.48, Chevron Corp. CVX rose 0.29% to $103.26, and ConocoPhillips COP fell 0.39% to $50.89. Trading volume remained 8.2 million below its 50-day average volume of 19.4 M.
