FPL plans on building a new solar plant by Immokalee

FPL plant near Immokalee will soon produce energy from Sun.The project is likely to be the first one in Collier County.County commissioners settled the final approvals for the highly funded project at a board meeting June 22.

The board approved the plant with a conditional use to enable the plant to be on agricultural land. The board also signed off on numerous inconsistencies to the county’s landscaping requirements that would have ended up making the project costly.Property records indicate the land for the new solar plant which got changed after FPL paid USD5.5 million for it earlier this year.

Barron Collier Cos., the seller of the land used to grow citrus in the land but as the company CEO Blake Gable said the copse had reached the end of its useful time. The Naples-based company has collaborated with FPL for about five years in order to lookout for site in Collier for the solar center. There were no objections made by anyone for the chosen site and the plans to use the site for.The CEO said the plant is a great use for that site.

The area of the site is about 578 acres and it is located on the east side of the junction at State Road 82 and State Road 29.A spokeswoman for FPL, Ashley Fogg Schutz said that the plant is fraction of the organization’s 30-by-30 strategy which includes developing 30 million solar panels by the year 2030.Schutz said that the solar energy plants they are building today requires less cost and are three times bigger.
